In this post I share with you a super formula to succeed and stand out as an artist. It has to do with the 3 Hs, head, heart and hand. It made me think deeply about my skills, and become aware of my strengths, those I might perhaps have been born with, and also my weaknesses and the skills I need to improve if I aim to strengthen my path as a successful artist.
The first H is “head”. If refers to the conception of a brilliant idea and the planification of the perfect format, medium and approach to manifest is artistically. Have you ever realized that some artists have not really extraordinary drawing skills, but have excellent ideas?
The second H stands for “heart”. It has to do with intuition, with sensitivity, with the way we make that brilliant idea evoke, raise emotions, connect with the audience.
The third H out of the 3 is “Hand”. It refers to the abilities or technical skills enabling us to express the idea and the emotion. We tend to think that technical skills are the most important ones, but the truth is that if the other two parts are not strong enough, the art work lacks soul and does not reach the audience.
From my point of view, most average artists are usually more or less strong in two out of the three aspects. However, only those who stand out in the three really become great artists.
So, I hope this formula inspires you as much as it has done for me and that you put it into practice next time that you undertake a new project. Here I leave for you the Ted Talk where I learnt about this formula, in case that you want to watch it too. And if you wish to keep on reading, have a look at the post I talk about my career and my relationship to art.
